DO 30. ZÁŘÍ 2026 — Applications for the Maria Leptin EMBO Science Journalism Fellowship

This is an offer from EMBO, Europe’s life sciences academy and funder, to associations and unions representing journalists and science journalists, and to universities and academies offering science journalism courses or training.

The deadline for applications for the Maria Leptin | EMBO Science Journalism Fellowship scheme in 2026 will be 11.59pm Central European time 30 September.

  • For science journalists wishing to further their knowledge and reporting of the life sciences, the programme supports sabbaticals in a life sciences research institute for up to six months.
  • For life scientists wishing to transition to a career as a science journalist, the programme supports internships at media organizations of between three and 12 months.

Successful applicants receive a daily stipend paid in advance which is intended to cover living expenses as well as travel and labour costs. The programme has one selection round per year with a closing date of 30 September. Assessment of applications is by an independent advisory board. The fellowships are only available for editorially independent science journalism activity. Applicants must reside in one of the 32 EMBC member states and placements must occur in an EMBC member state. Further information, including how to apply, full conditions and daily stipend rates, is available under the funding tab at embo.org

The full EMBC list of countries is at embc.embo.org

The fellowships were made possible by a private donation from Maria Leptin.
